To comply with the Montana Environmental Policy Act, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) prepared a final environmental assessment (Final EA) regarding the land application of septage in Absarokee, Montana.  The Final EA is posted on DEQ’s website at:

The proposal includes the land application of septage on approximately 20 acres of private land located on the Miller Scollard Property, at Section 6, Range 19 East, Township 4 South, Stillwater County, Montana.

The public comment period on the draft environmental assessment started on May 20, 2026, and ended on June 19, 2026.  DEQ received twelve submissions. DEQ read, considered and summarized the substantive elements from the comments.  Responses can be found in Section 10 of the Final EA.

The land application site is approved.
