Waste Management Bureau | Final Environmental Assessment Deer Lodge Landfill Expansion | Deer Lodge, MT
To comply with the Montana Environmental Policy Act, the Department of Environmental Quality
(DEQ) prepared a final environmental assessment (Final EA) regarding the southeastward
expansion of the Deer Lodge Landfill in Deer Lodge, Montana.
The proposal includes approximately 110 acres of property located southeast of the currently
operating Deer Lodge Landfill which sits south of Boulder Road approximately two miles southeast
of the city of Deer Lodge. A drive would be used to access the site from Boulder Road. Of the 110
acres, only 25.6 acres are planned for active landfilling activities.
DEQ received four submissions with comments covering several topics from the Draft EA and Proposed
Action. DEQ read, summarized, combined, and considered the substantive elements from the
comments. DEQ responded to comments and made changes to the Final EA (see Section 6 of the Final
EA).
The Proposed Action is approved.
