Twelve Steps to become a Certified Operator

- Read information received thoroughly
- Review checklist
- Fully complete application
- Personal information (keep Certification Office informed of change)
- Experience used to determine if fully certified
- Education--if no High School Diploma a High School Waiver form must be filled out.
- Determine what class and type of system (see Certification Chart)
- Fill in all applicable water and wastewater experience
- Fill in all applicable education (post-secondary can count up to half of experience requirement)
- Applicant signature needs to be notarized
- Mail it back with fees
- $70 for Water Distribution and/or Water Treatment (annual-non refundable)
- $70 for Wastewater Plan and/or Industrial Treatment (annual-non-refundable
- $70 for Each Exam (2A3B, 3A4B, 4AB, 5AB considered one exam)
- Send back examination notice by deadline (30 days before exam)
- Receive study materials from Certification Office
- Study! Call the Certification Office to help arrange special help if needed.
- Take the examination. NOTE: There is a 30 day waiting period from the date that the application is received by our office before the exam may be taken.
- Wait for the results (approximately 4-8 weeks)
