TMDLs Under Development
TMDL work is currently in-progress for the projects listed in the table below. Projects are organized alphabetically by TMDL project area within their respective river basin. A map of all TMDL project areas in Montana is available on the TMDL Project Area Status Map webpage. The map is color coded to show the status of each area, including whether or not a TMDL document has been completed. Some project areas have additional information on an external website and can be accessed by clicking on the TMDL project area name.
TMDL development generally takes two to five years to complete, and TMDL documents usually include multiple TMDLs that address multiple waterbodies in a project area. Pollutant groups that will be contained in the same document for a project area are merged together in the Public Comment Information column in the table below. TMDL development is a collaborative effort between DEQ and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Project managers include both DEQ and EPA staff.
