Citizen Science on Smith River

DEQ and Fish, Wildlife & Parks recently announced a new mobile application that engages citizens to collect information on algae growth in the Smith River. The Smith is accessed via FW&P's permitted float system. Successful applicants can use cell phone images to record and report algae conditions on river trips.

Soda Butte Creek to be Withdrawn from Impaired Listing

DEQ is asking the Environmental Protection Agency to withdraw Soda Butte Creek from Montana's listing of impaired waterways.  The creek flows into  Yellowstone Park near Cooke City, a historic mining district. Since remediation, the creek's heavy metals loads now meet state and federal standards, which prompted the request for removal.
