Grant Opportunity for Rural Healthcare Facilities
The Department of Environmental Quality will award grants for energy efficient upgrades to rural health care facilities. This is a competitive process and the cap on the grant funding is $25,000. Matching funds are not required. An estimated twelve projects will be funded in frontier counties (county population of 6 or fewer persons/sq. mile). Click here for eligibility determination.
Funded projects may include energy-efficient upgrades to air systems, insulation, lighting, water systems, HVAC systems, appliances (such as washers/dryers or dishwashers), boilers, and waste systems. Other energy-saving measures will also be considered.
A recent energy audit (within the last three years) is required for a project to be funded. Local utility companies may provide audit services, possibly free-of-charge. If not, contact the DEQ for assistance with audit costs.
Applicants must demonstrate that the savings incurred because of the proposed energy-efficient upgrades will equal the cost of the funded project within fifteen years.
