Dear Friends and Neighbors:

We know that even in the warmest years, Montana's going to get cold in the winter. High energy prices may make it harder for some of our neighbors to stay warm this year.

I am issuing a Call to Service, through our Warm Homes Warm Hearts initiative, to citizens, businesses, churches, civic organizations, youth groups, and schools, to buddy up with a neighbor, a relative, or someone who may need assistance getting ready for the harsh weather soon to come.

This website has information about weatherization, saving energy and other resources to find help for your family and to find out how you can help others to help stay warm.

Utilities have stepped up to the plate by offering weatherization kits and information. Local County Extension offices can assist with information and training for weatherization. While supplies may cost some money, local businesses may be willing to help with donations. Many HRDC weatherization offices are willing to provide guidance to volunteers in this endeavor.

Our pioneer forebears adapted to the difficult challenges of this climate with the help of neighbors. They were tough and so are we, but they were also generous and understood that only through community were they going to survive in Montana.

On behalf of all Montanans, I thank you for all of the ways you serve the last and the least in your communities.

Governor Brian Schweitzer
