List of recyclers and re-sellers in Montana

A number of local repair and re-sale shops throughout the state will accept certain obsolete or used computers from customers that contact them. Some businesses are recycling just the precious metals, while others refurbish the computers to resell them or to donate to needy organizations and individuals. These diverse recycling options do not add up to a particularly strong recycling market for computers in Montana, but do offer creative alternatives to landfilling.

There are many needy schools and organizations that would benefit greatly from donated computers. Businesses and corporations looking to dispose of computers may consider working with some of the contacts listed here to facilitate donations. In fact, the Montana Legislature adopted a policy instructing state agencies to work through the Office of Public Instruction (OPI) to surplus agency computers to needy schools on a first-come, first-served basis. Agencies contact OPI and let them know of the quantity and type of computers available and OPI contacts the next school on the waiting list to arrange pickup and delivery.
