Sage Grouse and the Montana Underground Storage Tank Community

By Leanne Hackney The greater sage grouse was once a candidate for listing under the federal Endangered Species Act in 11 western states. Loss and fragmentation of sagebrush habitat was a key concern. Montana’s goal is to maintain viable sage grouse populations and conserve habitat so that Montana maintains flexibility to manage its own lands, wildlife and economy and to ensure a listing under the Act is not warranted in the future.
