Witzel Resolves Water Quality Act Violation at Deer Lodge Trailer Park
Helena — The Montana Department of Environmental Quality reports that Dale Witzel, owner of Witzel’s Trailer Park in Deer Lodge has resolved a violation of the Montana Water Quality Act.
Witzel’s sewer cleanout line broke, which allowed waste materials to enter Johnson Creek. Susan Bawden of DEQ’s Enforcement Division explained that state waters need protection from pollution because they are such an important resource to all Montanans.
To resolve the violation, Witzel voluntarily removed seven trailers from service at the trailer park, had the sewer lines at the trailer park evaluated for their condition and capacity, and moved the sewer cleanout line away from the creek. Additionally, Witzel agreed to pay an administrative penalty of $10,930.
