Montana’s 2016 Water Quality Integrated Report Now Available

Helena – The Environmental Protection Agency has approved Montana’s 2016 Water Quality Integrated Report, which was submitted by the Department of Environmental Quality last fall. The final 2016 report documents the state’s water quality conditions for the years 2014 – 2015 and is now available to the public.

The 2016 report contains:

  • a summary overview of state water quality information;

  • a list of impaired waters and associated pollutants – known as the 303(d) list;

  • the schedule for preparing pollutant-specific studies – known as Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs);

  • new waterbody assessments;

  • updated assessment information for select waters; and

  • an overview of state water quality programs.

A TMDL determines the amount of a specific pollutant a waterbody can receive – from all sources – without exceeding water quality standards. A TMDL report may include a water quality restoration plan.
