DEQ to host public meeting and site tour on the Clark Fork River Superfund Site

HELENA – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality will host a public meeting on the Clark Fork River Superfund Site on Thursday, Aug. 2, at 6 p.m., at the Elks Lodge in Deer Lodge, 230 Main St.

DEQ will begin cleanup on the Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS portion of the Clark Fork cleanup this fall. Approximately 400,000 cubic yards of contaminated material on the banks and floodplain of the Clark Fork River will be removed from 2.6 river miles on the ranch. The ranch is operated by the National Park Service to preserve Montana’s frontier cattle-era heritage. The river banks and floodplain will be reconstructed with clean soil and revegetated with native plants.

DEQ staff will give an overview of the project and cleanup plans, followed by a question-and-answer session. A site tour for the public is scheduled Saturday, Aug. 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is limited. RSVP by Aug. 1 to Joann Wiggins at:
