DEQ Releases Proposed Plan for Cleanup of Mission Wye State Superfund Facility

Helena – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is seeking public comment on the feasibility study report and proposed cleanup plan for the Mission Wye State Superfund Facility in Livingston.  The public is encouraged to attend a meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the City-County Complex at 414 East Callender St. in Livingston.

The feasibility study report includes cleanup options to address the remaining solvent contamination in soil vapor and groundwater at the Facility. The proposed plan identifies DEQ’s preferred option. The public is encouraged to offer suggestions for improving the proposed cleanup measures, or to submit reasons to implement other alternatives for the project.

The preferred cleanup plan consists of:

  • Property and groundwater use limitations
  • Monitored natural attenuation – or gradual decrease – of contaminated groundwater

The final plan for cleaning up the Facility will be documented by DEQ in a Record of Decision after DEQ considers each public comment submitted during the 30-day public comment period, which starts June 6 and ends July 6, 2019.
