DEQ accepting public comment on partial bond release for quarry near Harlowton
Helena — The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is accepting public comment on a request by Lyle (Bud) Colby for a partial release for a bond held for a quarry located about 15 miles southwest of Harlowton, in Wheatland County. The decorative stone quarry was formerly operated by Northfork Stoneworks.
The current bond is set at $11,044. The request is to release $4,096 to reflect the grading and replacement of soil on the acres of disturbance. DEQ inspected the site on June 16, 2015 and proposes to approve the partial bond release as requested. The department would retain bond in the amount of $6,138 to guarantee revegetation and weed control on the reclaimed acreage
DEQ may not release or decrease a reclamation bond until the public has been provided an opportunity for a hearing and a hearing has been held if requested. A request for a hearing on the proposed partial bond release must be submitted by August 28, 2015, to the postal or email address set forth below.
