Climate Change & Energy
Introduction
Montana’s energy picture may be viewed as two distinct parts. The first part is the production of energy resources and the delivery of energy products. This aspect includes the drilling for oil and natural gas, the mining of coal, the refineries and production facilities, pipelines, electrical generation facilities, and transmission lines. Collectively, this is known as the “supply side” of energy. Energy production in Montana contributes significantly to emission of greenhouse gases. However, non-contributing hydro-electric generation and renewable energy production from wind generators and solar panels are also categorized under the supply side rubric.
